Applicable fees can be paid only with Money Order or Cashier's Cheque issued in the name of Consulate General of Nepal, San Francisco. Cash payment will not be accepted.

The Consulate General will accept application for a new/renewal Nepali e-passport and enroll the biometrics details of the applicant for the same. Hence, an applicant is required to be present in person at the Consulate General on the scheduled date and time.

Steps required for e-passport application

  1. Fill in the online form and upload documents while choosing your convenient time slot for the visit to the Consulate General
  2. Visit the Consulate General at the scheduled appointment date and time with all the required documents and relevant fees.

Applicants without prior appointment will not be able to submit their application at the Consulate General.

Please read carefully the instructions for filling out the form.

The system requires that you must complete your online application within 30 minutes; otherwise, the application session will expire, and you need to start afresh. Therefore, it is advised to have scanned copies of following documents in hand as they will be required during the application process.

For adults above 16 years, prepare soft copies of the following documents (Please make sure that the scanned copies are clear and the file size of each of these documents is less than 300 KB):

  • Front page of citizenship
  • Back page of citizenship
  • Previous passport"s bio-personal data page and stamp page (Page 2 and 3)
  • Previous passport"s Next of Kin page (Page 30 and 31 of the MRP)

For minors who have not obtained citizenship certificate yet, prepare soft copies of following documents:

  • Minor Identity Certificate issued by respective District Administration Office in Nepal
  • Previous passport"s bio-personal data page and stamp page (Page 2 and 3)
  • Previous passport"s Next of Kin page (Page 30 and 31 of the MRP)
  • Copies of citizenship certificates of both parents
  • Copies of marriage registration certificate of parents

  • You may create User Account. Online application can be completed without creating User Account too.

Handwritten passport holders, if any, must choose First Issuance.

  • Select Ordinary (34 pages) or one of the available options, and then click on Proceed.
  • Select "I agree".
  • Upload separate scanned copies of your following documents:
    1. Nepali citizenship card (front and back) or minor identity card (for minors)
    2. Previous passport"s personal bio-page and stamp page (Page 2 and 3) and Next of Kin"s page (Page 30 and 31 of the MRP)
    3. Copies of citizenship certificates of both parents (in case of a minor)
  • Then, submit the form, download it, and PRINT a copy of the downloaded form. (You must submit the printed form at the Consulate General along with the true copies of the documents submitted online and other required documents when you visit the Consulate General in-person on the assigned date and time.

Preparation for the day of the appointment

On the day of your appointment, please bring the following documents (in the following order).

For Renewal:

  1. Printed application form with barcode
  2. Original passport and its copy
  3. Original Nepali citizenship certificate and its copy.
  4. Proof of status of the applicant in the USA (Green Card, Visa page or any other evidence showing status) and its copy

Note: Applicants above 16 years without a Citizenship Certificate who are unable to travel to Nepal to obtain the Citizenship Certificate can apply for passport renewal with a validity of two years only (This is only applicable for renewal the first time, and after the two years, you must present a citizenship certificate for renewal of your passport).

For Replacement (in case of lost/stolen/damaged):

  1. Printed application form with barcode
  2. Printed copy of lost/stolen/damaged passport
  3. Original Nepali citizenship card and a photocopy
  4. Proof of status of the applicant in the USA (Green Card, Visa page or any other evidence showing status) and its copy

For Minor:

  1. Printed application form with barcode
  2. Original passport and its copy
  3. Minor Identity Card issued from the District/Area Administration Offices in Nepal or birth certificate (In case of foreign-born).
  4. Citizenship certificate of both parents
  5. Copy of marriage certificate of parents
  6. Current immigration status of parents
  7. Proof of status of the applicant in the USA (Green Card, Visa page or any other evidence showing status) and its copy

Important: WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROCESS YOUR APPLICATION IF YOU DO NOT BRING THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS AND COPIES TO THE CONSULATE. Arriving unprepared or without the necessary documents will result in delays and/or holds in the processing until the required documents are received.

Delivery/ Pickup

Passport delivery can take 6-8 weeks after the biometric appointment. Once your passport arrives at the Consulate, the Consulate General notifies you through public notice of the receipt of passport at the Consulate. Since it will take 2-3 days to prepare your passport for dispatch after it arrives here, wait for 7 days to track the envelope.

If you opted for pickup, you can collect your passport from the Consulate after the Consulate notifies the receipt of the passport at the Consulate. To collect your own passport, please bring your Identification card from either the US or Nepal. If you are picking up on behalf of someone else, please bring an authorization letter along with your own ID for verification.
